Bronze Bugle is a creeping perennial with evergreen leaves. The attractive foliage is bronze-purple. It then produces densely packed small upright spires of deep blue flowers, which arrive in April and stay until June. Bronze Bugle will tolerates sun or shade and even poor soils but does not like to dry out. The beautiful blue flowers from late spring will provide a lovely show of subtle colour, and as the plant attains a height of 15cm and can spread up to 1M, its stature and fast growing habit make it an excellent choice for ground cover and it is especially useful in shade.
To rejuvenate the plants can be lifted and divided in late autumn or early spring every two years.
Ajuga was traditionally used in herbal medicine and was used externally for bruises and wounds, and was a remedy for arthritic complaints, it is however, not much used today. It is well worth growing for its appearance and it's useful ground covering properties in shade.
Our potted Bronze Bugle herb plants are generally available to buy online between March and September.
