Thyme is grown the world over as it is such a versatile plant, not only is its foliage is attractive, the flowers are long-lasting and very pretty, and it is drought tolerant - an overall easy-care plant. On top of that it is one of the most useful herbs for the kitchen.

A fragrant form of Thyme from the mountainous areas of Andalusia in Spain. These are good garden plants with very showy purple/pink flowers all summer from June to September, giving rise to the name Long Flower Thyme. Plants have fine green/grey leaves and grow to a height of 20-30cm. They look great in dry or Mediterranean gardens, herb gardens, as edging and in pots. They attract pollinators. A good culinary herb too.

Long Flower Thyme grows best in a sunny spot and sandy or gravelled very well drained soil. Plants are hardy but need good drainage to survive a UK winter.

 this thyme is suitable for planting in the rock garden, herb garden or the front of a border, or between pavers so it will release its scent when trodden on. Thyme is also known as very good container plant. Caraway Thyme is an excellent ground cover, and will quickly cover an area, especially where conditions are ideal. As with all Thyme it likes a well-drained light soil, and it should not be too rich in nutrients as this will only encourage the plant to grow 'leggy' and lose its compact shape, also ensure that the plant is cut back after flowering again to help maintain shape. Being a native of the Mediterranean it needs a place in full sun.

Long-flowered Thyme is an excellent herb for flavouring roast meat as well as stuffing and stews, and is ideal added to a bouquet-garni. Pies and chutneys are also given an extra lift when this aromatic herb is added. It has also been used for many centuries medicinally and its essential oils have been used to treat aches and pains and sprains.
