Hedge Hyssop despite the name has nothing to do with hedges in fact it is a perennial which thrives in rich damp areas of the garden, preferring alkaline soil. It flowers in the summertime, and these small white flowers which bloom at the leaf axils are a pretty show and give it its other common name of summer snowflake. This pretty plant can be grown as marginal aquatic plant its upright stems support linear, green foliage with toothed edges, creating a pleasing backdrop to the summer blooms. Gratiola officinalis enjoys boggy soil and very shallow watery margins making it useful for disguising the edges of ponds. Height and spread: 30cm. if using as a marginal then its Planting depth should be Zones 1 & 2 to 5cm below water level.

Herb Usage

Warning ! - All parts of Hedge Hyssop are poisonous.  (Not to be confused with other Hyssop varieties) The Hyssopus Officinalis' varieties which are not poisonous theses generally have pink, blue, or, more rarely, white fragrant flowers, and do not like moist conditions.
