Basil, Cinnamon - Ocimum basilicum 'Cinnamon'
Type: Annual
Originating in warm tropical regions, Basil has become synonymous with the Mediterranean region, where the hot sunny climate allows it to thrive. It does not do well outdoors in cool Summers.
This Mexican variety is highly cinnamon scented, and requires a warm sheltered position to produce an abundance of aromatic leaves which can be used in cooking, either as a garnish or to add spice and freshness to dishes or dressings.
A vigorous plant with purple veined leaves and numerous stems, Cinnamon Basil produces lavender pink flowers on upright stems. Basil is considered an annual in Britain, but can have its life extended if it is brought indoors when the weather cools. As a culinary herb, Basil needs to be cut to ensure continued leaf production, as if left to its own devices, will become woody.
Ideally grown in pots or containers. Height: 50cm-60cm
