Basil Lime - Ocimum x citriodorum 'Lime'
Type: Culinary
Originating in warm tropical regions, Lime Basil is a cross between O. americanum and O. basilicum, and grows from South East Asia to North East Africa. It thus thrives in a hot, sunny position, and does not do well outdoors in cool Summers.
A vigorous upright plant with grey green leaves and numerous stems, Lime Basil is considered an annual in Britain, but can have its life extended if it is brought indoors when the weather cools. As a culinary herb, Lime Basil produces extremely aromatic leaves for flavouring curries, stuffings and salads. The leaves can be used as a tonic to lower fever. As a plant, it has a reputation for needing care and attention, but it is well worth the effort.
Ideally grown in pots or containers. Height: 15cm-70cm. (depending on growing conditions)
