Basil, Napolitano - Ocimum basilicum 'Napolitano'
Type: Annual
Originating in warm tropical regions, Basil has become synonymous with the Mediterranean, where the hot sunny climate allows it to thrive. It does not do well outdoors in cool Summers.
A large leaf, Italian, sweet variety, this Basil can be used in traditional pesto, and as an aromatic herb, it is ideal for cooking, either as a garnish or to add freshness to pasta, salads and chicken dishes.
A vigorous upright plant with bright green leaves and numerous stems, Basil Napolitano is considered an annual in Britain, but can have its life extended if it is brought indoors when the weather cools. As a culinary herb, Basil needs to be cut to ensure continued leaf production, as if left to its own devices, will become woody and produce small white flowers.
Ideally grown in pots or containers. Height: 30cm-60cm
