Basil, Red Rubin - Ocimum var. purpurascens 'Red Rubin'

Type: Annual

Originating in warm tropical regions, Basil has become synonymous with the Mediterranean, where the hot sunny climate allows it to thrive. It does not do well outdoors in cool Summers.

A vigorous upright plant with bronze-purple leaves and numerous stems, Basil Red Rubin is an extremely attractive plant, producing pink flowers in late Summer. Basil is considered an annual in Britain, but can have its life extended if it is brought indoors when the weather cools. As a culinary herb, Basil needs to be cut to ensure continued leaf production, as if left to its own devices, will become woody and flower.

Basil Rubin has a fine flavour with a distinctive sweet scent, sure to add colour and interest to salads and other dishes.

Ideally grown in pots or containers. Height: 30cm-60cm
