Box - Buxus sempervirens

This delightful perennial is perhaps best known as a hedging or ornamental plant, as it's compact growing habit, tolerance of close shearing and scented foliage make is an ideal candidate for hedging and topiary. 

Buxus sempervirens, also known as Common Box, European Box or as Boxwood, is native to Western and Southern Europe, Africa and the Mediterannean regions, and will flourish in remarkably diverse situations, and it will tolerate well-drained through to clay/heavy soils and will cope with acidic and chalky soil.

Box prefers full sun to partial shade, and is exceptionally hardy. Growing to a height of 5m if left untended, Box will spread to 5m too. However, with shearing, box can make an extrememly attractive small hedging plant.
