Bugle, Bronze - Ajuga reptans 'Atropurpurea'

Ajuga reptans 'Atropurpurea', or Bronze Bugle is a useful plant for the edge of a shady border, as it makes an excellent groundcover as it soon knits together to form an evergreen carpet. This hardy perennial grows to a height of 15cm and can spread up to 1m, and its fast growing habit make it an excellent choice for an establishing garden.
Bronze Bugle has attractive bronze-purple foliage with densely packed small upright spires of deep blue flowers, which arrive in April and stay until June. Bronze Bugle will tolerates sun or shade and even poor soils but does not like to dry out.
Ajuga was used externally for bruises and wounds, and was a remedy for arthritic complaints.
