Chamomile, Roman - Chamaemelum nobile
Type: Perennial
Chamomile is native to Western Europe and America, and grows wild in the pastures and prairies, or where other grasses flourish. As a result, it is fully hardy and prefers well drained soils in full sun.
A mat-forming evergreen plant, Chamaemelum nobile has tiny aromatic leaves and long stalked single daisy-like flowers, with yellow discs and creamy white petals. Can be cut as lawn. Prefer acid soil.
30cm spread.
Popularly used as a calming, stress relieving tea, chamomile also assists digestion and the flowers and leaves have been used for a range of complaints, from nappy rash to anger management. The essential oils are important in cosmetic products like conditioners, and also feature in the arsenal of the aromatherapist.
