Oenothera biennis or Evening Primrose is a hardy biennial that is widely cultivated for its oil, as it is reputed to have particular benefits to health. Evening Primrose goes by a host of names including 'Evening Star', 'Fever Plant', 'King's cure-all' and 'Moths Moonflower.'
Aside form its usefulness as a medicinal herb, Evening Primrose is an exceptionally attractive plant, and can grow to 1.2m tall. With its lance-shaped green leaves and bearing large evening-scented, yellow, trumpet shaped flowers in its second summer, Evening Primrose is definately a meadow plant worth having in the border.
Additionally, the roots of this versatile plant can be cooked like parsnips.
