Large Flowered Mullein - Verbascum densiflorum

Mullein or Verbascum densiflorum is native to Europe, Asia and North Africa, and this hardy biennial can grow up to 2m tall. Preferring dry stony soil in a sunny site, Mullein will self seed easily, and seedlings can be dug up and replanted where wanted.
The most striking aspect of Verbascum densiflorum is the display of yellow flowers with dark centers in mid summer. The rosette of large lance-shaped leaves will send up huge spikes of yellow florets in the second year of life, and it is the young leaves and these flowers that are harvested for their medicinal properties.
Strained infusions are made of both flowers and leaves andthese are used to aid coughs, colds and nervous tension.
