Wood Sage - Teucrium scorodonia
Type: Perennial
Teucrium scorodonia, or Wood Sage (also known as Woodland Germander), is a perennial herb native to Europe, Tunisia the Azores and the Madeira Islands.
This creeping plant has yellow-green flowers which appear in pairs on long, slender spikes. It has sage-like crinkled leaves - hence the name - athough there the resemblance ends, as wood sage has little value as a culinary herb.Wood sage likes neutral to acid mineral soils and occurs on a wide variety of habitats, including open woodland and scrub, hedgerows, heaths and sand dunes. Wood sage will do well in full sun or light shade. Its plentiful seed provides food for many birds.
It is cultivated as an ornamental plant in most instances.
