Greek Basil has distinctive miniature pointed leaves on a compact growing plant. This is the Basil you find in the Med when you are on holiday! Used in traditional pesto, this aromatic herb is ideal for cooking, either as a garnish or to add freshness to pasta, salads and chicken dishes. Originating in warm tropical regions, Basil has become synonymous with the Mediterranean, where the hot sunny climate allows it to thrive. It does not do well outdoors in cool Summers.
Basil is considered an annual in Britain, but can have its life extended if it is brought indoors when the weather cools. As a culinary herb, Basil needs to be cut to ensure continued leaf production, as if left to its own devices, will become woody and produce small white flowers.
Ideally grown in pots or containers.
