A vigorous upright plant with grey green leaves and numerous stems, Lime Basil produces extremely aromatic leaves for flavouring curries, stuffings and salads, and the leaves can be used as a tonic to lower fever. Considered an annual in Britain, Lime Basil can have its life extended if it is brought indoors when the weather cools. As a plant, it has a reputation for needing care and attention, but it is well worth the effort.
Originating in warm tropical regions, Lime Basil is a cross between O. americanum and O. basilicum, and grows from South East Asia to North East Africa. It thus thrives in a hot, sunny position, and does not do well outdoors in cool Summers.
Ideally grown in pots or containers. Height: 15cm-70cm. (depending on growing conditions)
