Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)Herb in 9cm Pot

Ashwaganda is an exotic herb plant. A strong and vigorous plant, Ashwagandha is also known as 'Indian Ginseng' and 'Winter Cherry'. This medicinal herb plant grows into a small, woody shrub approximately 3-4 ft high with elliptical green leaves, producing small, uniform five-petaled flowers and small red berries. Preferring hot, full sun, this herb will grow well after ALL chance of frost is gone, it will need a sunny well sheltered spot and will need to be brought inside the green house to overwinter, or grown again from seed.

Given proper temperatures, soil depth and adequate (but not excessive) watering, the Ashwagandha root should be ready to harvest in the first year.

Herb Usage

Used by Ayurvedic healers for thousands of years, Ashwagandha is used to reduce inflammation, decrease stress and increase the libido. The leaves and roots are used as both an aphrodisiac and a sedative! The root is the part of the plant said to be the most potent part.
