Bowles Mint (Mentha x villosa var. alopecuroides) Herb in 9cm Pot
Mentha x villosa var. alopecuroides 'Bowles' mint, also known as 'Bowles' Apple mint is a native of Europe, but has been naturalised worldwide. This hardy perennial is essentially a culinary herb. Mint will thrive anywhere, preferring moist partly shady areas, and are easy to grow from cuttings or replanting of runners, although it is slightly less aggressive than common mint. To control spread, this herb should be planted in sunken bottomless containers to be on the safe side if you don't want any spread.Keep well watered to ensure good leaf production.
Bowles Applemint will produce small mauve flower spikes in summer, and grow 60cm-1m tall.
Herb Usage
'Bowles' Apple mint can be used in sauces to compliment meats (mint sauce with lamb), soups, salads, vegetable dishes, sweet dishes and drinks. The subtle taste of apple mint makes it an excellent choice for culinary use, also great in a mojito!
