Black Cohosh, black snakeroot or Actea racemosa is a lovely perennial herb, which shows beautiful dark copper leaves, and is a fabulous architectural plant as it produces tall spires of creamy white scented flowers in late summer. Growing to 2 metres, it enjoys a moist humus rich position. Will tolerate dappled shade. This is a great plant for a shady spot at the back of the border where the striking white flower spikes will tower over most of the other plants.
Black Cohosh is well known as a preparation for treatment of symptoms of the menopause, the root is used in the production of this supplement for women.
Our potted Black Cohosh herb plants are generally available to buy online between March and September.

Plants arrived ready to make an instant statement in the border. Thanks to careful packing all the dark feathery fronds were intact. Good size meant they form an instant contrasting backdrop to artemisia and soft pink delphiniums. Planting with mallow Mauritania makes a stunning combination.
