Nodding Onion 'Hidcote' (Allium cernuum 'Hidcote') Herb in 1 litre Pot

This beautiful member of the onion family is a welcome addition to any garden. Often called the 'Nodding Onion' Allium Cernuum 'Hidcote' has pinkish/purple flowers which appear in May/June. The nodding star-burst like flowers hang in clusters upon a long stem, forming graceful heads above the strappy foliage it will grow to a height of 35cm.  It is also known as Lady's Leek it can be used as a cut flower with the star-like heads being very attractive. They are easy to grow and are effective in naturalised planting schemes, they can form large clumps which can be divided in Spring or Autumn. This plant reseeds easily as long as you do not remove the dried flowers too soon.

Will grow in ordinary, even poor, dry soil, but which should be well drained. Hardy.  Is great in a rockery or a trough or in the border .

Herb Usage

The Nodding Onion is not considered to be of significant culinary value. The plant has been used as an insect repellent, specifically for moths. Some claim that planting Nodding Onion repels moles but we can not vouch for this!

This particular variety is grown for its ornamental flowers only which are lovely used as a cut flower. Do not eat ornamental bulbs.
