Often called the 'Nodding Onion' Allium Cernuum has pinkish/purple flowers appear in May/June the nodding star-burst like flowers hang in clusters upon a long stem forming graceful heads above the strappy foliage. It is also known as Lady's Leek it can be used as a cut flower with the star-like heads being very attractive. They are easy to grow and are effective in naturalised planting schemes, they can form large clumps which can be divided in Spring or Autumn.
The Nodding Onion is not considered to be of significant culinary value. The plant has been used as an insect repellent, specifically for moths. Some claim that planting Nodding Onion repels moles but we can not vouch for this!
This particular variety is grown for its ornamental flowers only which are lovely used as a cut flower. Do not eat ornamental bulbs.
Our Nodding Onions are generally available to buy online between March and September.
