Siberian chives, Blue Flowering Garlic Chives (Allium nutans)Herb in 1L Pot

Siberian Chives as the name suggests is native to Siberia also known as 'the blue flowering Garlic chive' due to its flower colour.  The flat, nodding green leaves have a mild onion/garlic flavour. Flowering in July and August, with heads of numerous pale blue/mauve star shaped flowers. As with most chives it requires little maintenance. It may be cut back after flowering if it becomes unsightly, and will respond well to a hard pruning in Spring to get new fresh growth. Clumps may be divided in spring or autumn. The flowers are also attractive to pollinating insects.

Herb Usage

Use as any other chive the leaves can be chopped and added into many dishes  such as risottos, omelettes and other egg dishes to add a delicate garlic/onion flavour. The leaves and flowers can be added to salads for flavour and visual interest.
