Anthriscus sylvestris 'Ravenswing' (Purple-leaved Cow Parsley 'Ravenswing') Herb in 1 Litre Pot
This attractive plant is a purple-leaved version of our Common Cow Parsley it is also known as Queen Anne's Lace and features dark purple-brown foliage and stems, which are followed in late spring to summer with lacy umbels of tiny white flowers, with small pink bracts. An eye-catching, clump forming biennial or short-lived perennial, this fantastic addition to the border will provide a dark foliage contrast to other plants. This plant makes it a perfect plant for a wild garden or meadow, and an effective companion to ornamental grasses.
'Ravenswing' is fairly tolerant of soil type but prefers moist well-drained light soil. Prefers midday shade. Support with brushwood stakes before flowering to prevent it getting knocked about by the wind and rain.
The leaves of the common cow-parsley could be eaten raw or used as a herb for flavouring, but as it looks very similar to hemlock it was not often used as to get the two mixed up could prove fatal !! This particular variety is grown purely for its ornamental properties.
