Catmint 'Walkers Low' (Nepeta racemosa 'Walkers Low') Herb 1 litre Pot

Catmint 'Walkers Low' or Nepeta 'Walkers Low'  is a hardy perennial which has square stems and pointed leaves. The leaves have a minty aroma, hence the name, and an abundance of small blue flowers are produced in spikes which grow to 3 inches long. It flowers from spring to September if  cut back mid season a new flush of growth and flowers will result. Catmint 'Walkers Low' is similar to Catmint  'Six Hills Giant' but it is a much more compact version it will grow to a height of 50 cm and a spread of up to 50cm given the correct conditions if the soil is rich it can get taller up to 90cm, but generally it should grow as a tight mound.    Catmint 'Walkers Low' prefers well drained soil, preferably in a sunny position, and dislikes wet winters. Catmint 'Six Hills Giant' is scented and attractive to bees, and will be an attractive addition to the herb garden.

Herb Usage

Catmint 'Walkers Low' is most recognised for its effect on cats, and it has been documented the scent of bruised leaves of Catmint can cause cats to roll in it, paw it, lick it and/or heavily salivate. Some have even been known to exhibit aggressive behaviour in its presence (our cat takes no notice of it whatsoever !). As a herb, the leaves of Catmint were used for medicinal purposes, but now it is seen as a decorative plant, can be used in pot pourri.
