Cotton Lavender 'Lambrook Silver'(Santolina chamaecyparissus 'Lambrook Silver') Herb in 1Litre Pot.
Cotton Lavender 'Lambrook Silver'(Santolina chamaecyparissus 'Lambrook Silver') is a native of the Mediterranean region. Despite its common name it is not related to Lavender. This hardy evergreen shrub prefers light well-drained soil and a sunny position, and once established will produce a showy display of silvery grey foliage with finely divided leaves and bright yellow button flowers in mid to late summer. Remove the faded flower-heads along with any straggly shoots in autumn. In early-spring cut back the flowered shoots to within 2.5cm of the old growth. It is pretty frost hardy, Drought Tolerant and Seaside Friendly as it can stand exposure.
It will reach a height of approx 75cm and if planted at 20cm spacing, in a staggered row, cotton lavender will clip into a neat hedge and has been used in knot gardens and to edge borders for centuries.
The leaves have a chamomile like aroma, and the dried foliage is used to blend in herbal tobaccos, and both leaves and flowers are a favourite in pot pourri. Dried cotton lavender leaves are a successful moth deterrent.
