Creeping Thyme  (Thymus serpyllum )Herb in 9cm Pot

Thyme is grown the world over as it is such a versatile plant, not only is its foliage is attractive, the flowers are long-lasting and very pretty, and it is drought tolerant - an overall easy-care plant. On top of that it is one of the most useful herbs for the kitchen.

Creeping Thyme or 'wild thyme' reaches a height of 5 cm and with its small green leaves and  pale pink flowers, this vigorous mat-forming creeping thyme is an excellent ground cover plant, it is suitable for planting in the rock garden, herb garden or the front of a border, or perhaps plant between pavers or in gravel paths as the aromatic leaves release a lovely scent when trodden on. Creeping Thyme likes a well-drained light soil, and it should not be too rich in nutrients as this will only encourage the plant to grow 'leggy' and lose its compact shape, also ensure that the plant is cut back after flowering again to help maintain shape. Being a native of the Mediterranean it needs a place in full sun.

Herb Usage

Creeping Thyme is an excellent herb for brightening up a herb garden as edging or as a feature plant, it can be used to edge a path or plant between flag stones and within turf. It is often found in rockeries  it is edible and can be used as you would any other thyme, popular in Mediterranean dishes.

I ordered a selection of the thyme plants Hooks stock, to form a herb bed. The plants arrived beautifully packed in excellent condition. Lovely sturdy plants which are thriving. All the herb plants I have purchased from Hooks are robust and adaptable. Wouldn’t buy from anyone else.
