Sweet Rocket 'White' (Hesperis matronalis var. albiflora) Herb in 9cm Pot
Hesperis Matronalis var. albiflora or Sweet Rocket has a myriad of common names which include 'Sweet Rocket', 'Dame’s Rocket', 'Damask Violet', 'Dame’s Gilliflower', 'Night Scented Gilliflower' and 'Summer Lilac.'
A stunning perennial that can grow to 90 cm, the lush green lance-shaped leaves will send up spires of flowers in the summer. These flowers form clusters of night-scented white blooms that are very attractive to bees and are a good food plant for the Orange Tip Butterfly.
Preferring full sun or partial shade, Sweet Rocket is a wonderful addition to the cottage garden or herbaceous border especially if planted in drifts.
Herb Usage
Sweet rocket is primarily grown for its scented flowers, but young leaves can be picked before the plant flowers and tossed into salads as can the flowers but they are quite bitter.
