A lovely low-growing plant, oregano or Origanum onites, is a semi evergreen herb which has a wonderful fragrance. Used particularly in Italian cooking, oregano is the fragrant addition to Pizza which gives it that aromatic authentic taste. Also found extensively in Greek and Mexican food, Oregano thrives in dry, well drained soil, as it is native to the Mediterranean, and is hardier in a sheltered position.
With hairy stems and bright green pointed leaves, Oregano is an attractive plant for the herb garden, and is a must in any culinary garden. White flowers are produced in the late summer and are very attractive to bees.
Also known as pot marjoram, this attractive plant will grow to 60cm and cover an area of 30cm.
The entire plant can be harvested for oils and the pungent aromatic nature of it has a warming antiseptic property.
Our Greek Oregano herb plants are generally available to buy online between all-year-round.
