Golden Oregano (Origanum vulgare 'Aureum') RHS AGM Herb in 9cm Pot
Golden Oregano is an extremely aromatic golden-green herb, native to the Mediterannean and Southern Europe, Oregano is closely related to marjoram. Golden Oregano prefers a sunny site and does not particularly enjoy prolonged wet winters, but its hardy nature means it can remain evergreen through the winter months.Cut back old, flowered stems in early spring to obtain a new fresh flush of leaves and to maintain shape. Growing 30cm tall and preferring light well-drained soil, this variety has bright green oval leaves which grow profusely on short purple/brown stems, and a very pretty show of pink flowers appears in the summer. Ideal for the front of a border in your herb garden or herbaceous border, a rock or gravel garden, great as an edging plant and good ground cover, it's also happy in a container.
Awarded the RHS AGM, as seen in The Garden Magazine article by Jekka Mcvicar VMH
