Salvia 'Cherry Lips' (Sage'Cherry Lips') Herb in 1L Pot

Sage 'Cherry Lips' is a recent addition to the 'Cherry Lips range and like its relation grows to approximately 1m tall and 2m wide, as an example of a salvia, this is an excellent large variety and is a fabulous plant in its own right. It has leaves with a blackcurrant aroma and pea like blooms turning to a bi-coloured white and amethyst in combination.  Sage 'Amethyst Lips' is a native of Mexico, and thus prefers warmer climates than we traditionally experience in the UK. However, Sage 'Cherry Lips', can still thrive here if given protection from cold and excessive wet in the winter.

Sage 'Cherry Lips' will flower from spring through to early autumn, and although Frost Hardy it may be a good idea to take cuttings if you live in the far North in case of a a severe winter.  A great addition to the garden Sage 'Cherry Lips' prefers a sunny spot flourishing in a well drained border or in a large pot.

The Ideal time for cutting back flowering shrub sages, is the spring once new growth can be seen from the base and risk of frost has past. Cut up to half the plant back shaping as needed. If Sages are becoming leggy then a light summer cut may be required to encourage flowers and new growth. Dead heading the old flowers will encourage new flowers all season.

A delightful plant for the garden and herb border. Sage 'Cherry Lips' is such an attractive plant that most who see it, wish they had one in their garden!

Herb Usage

Sage has been used for centuries as a culinary herb, Sage 'Hot Lips' is grown as a perennial herb plant primarily for its flowers, which are highly attractive to bees and butterflies. However, the leaves and flowers can be used to flavour food and drinks and  has a slight blackcurrant edge to the sage flavour, great to add a fresh taste summer drinks.
