Thyme is grown the world over as it is such a versatile plant, not only is its foliage is attractive, the flowers are long-lasting and very pretty, and it is drought tolerant - an overall easy-care plant. On top of that it is one of the most useful herbs for the kitchen.
Thyme 'Russettings' reaches a height of 5 cm and with its small green leaves and profusion of soft pink flowers throughout the summer, this vigorous very low-growing creeping thyme is an excellent ground cover plant. it is suitable for planting in the rock garden, herb garden or the front of a border it will also make a very good container plant. Thyme 'Russettings', likes a well-drained light soil, and it should not be too rich in nutrients as this will only encourage the plant to grow 'leggy' and lose its compact shape, also ensure that the plant is cut back after flowering again to help maintain shape. Being a native of the Mediterranean it needs a place in full sun.
Herb Usage
Thyme 'Russettings' is an excellent herb for brightening up a herb garden as edging or as a feature plant, it is extensively used as a path thyme between flag stones and within turf. It is often found on rockeries as it is more decorative than culinary.

Thyme: Russetings
I purchased these last year as a creeping flowering thyme to fill in around ornamental paving stones and oh boy have they proved a winner! Not only did these plants survive a very wet, exceptionally cold Scottish winter, they have spread and grown and produced a carpet of pinkish violet flowers which bees go mad for. This purchase is to complete the walkway. Highly recommend.
