Bee Brush (Aloysia gratissima) Herb Plant in 1 Litre pot

Aloysia is a genus of flowering plants in the verbena family, Verbenaceae. They are known generally as Beebrushes as they are very attractive to bees and other pollinators. Being Native to the Americas, they enjoy a sheltered spot in a sunny position, somewhere where the leaves can be rubbed or crushed so that you can enjoy the lovely lemony scent!

Its flowers appear in summer as small white blooms but they are loved. The plant can grow to a height of 2 metres, if given the correct growing conditions.

Preferring light, well-drained soil and a sunny, sheltered position, Aloysia gratissima will respond well to being cut back hard, as this keeps the herb plants from becoming straggly.

Herb Usage

This plant is really one for the insects in the garden but the leaves could feature in a homemade pot-pourri, scented sachets and as an addition to the bath you could infuse a handful of leaves in 1Litre of boiling water and add to the bath.
